The New York Mets (20-9) closed their four-game series in Washington with a bang, hammering the Nationals (13-16) 19-5 on Monday evening behind a historic day from Brandon Nimmo.

Nimmo went 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double, and a franchise record-tying nine RBI. His first homer, a three-run shot in the sixth, broke the game open. Just an inning later, he delivered a grand slam to right-center. Nimmo capped his historic day with a two-run double in the eighth, matching Carlos Delgado’s single-game RBI mark for the Mets.

Jeff McNeil also chipped in, launching his first home run of the season as part of a 2-for-5 day with three RBI. Mark Vientos added a three-run homer off position player Amed Rosario in the ninth and finished with three RBI and four runs scored.

Griffin Canning kept the Nationals off balance for five shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 2.61. José Ureña struggled in his Mets debut, allowing five runs over the final three innings but still notching a save.

Every Met who played, except Francisco Lindor, recorded at least one hit as New York’s offense overwhelmed Washington’s struggling bullpen.
