California 5 stimulus: Last chance to apply by April 27

Families in Sacramento County have only a few days left to apply for $725 monthly payments through the Sacramento Family First Empowerment Support Program (FFESP). The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 27, 2025, at midnight.

The FFESP provides direct financial support to families caring for young children while aiming to prevent foster care placements.

What is the Sacramento Family First Empowerment Support Program?

The FFESP gives monthly assistance to legal guardians of children aged 0 to 5 who live in qualifying Sacramento County ZIP codes. To qualify, families must earn less than 200% of the federal poverty level.

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) awarded a block grant to Sacramento’s Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services (DCFAS) to fund the program. Private donors also contributed.

The program focuses on three goals:

  • Reducing child abuse and neglect
  • Lowering foster care entry rates
  • Improving families’ financial security

Program officials will randomly select recipients from the pool of eligible applicants after the deadline closes.

How much will families receive?

Qualifying households will collect $725 each month, starting in mid-June 2025.

Unlike Colorado’s one-time TABOR refunds—which give $800 to single filers and $1,600 to joint filers—California’s FFESP offers ongoing monthly payments. Both programs, however, aim to strengthen household finances without long application processes.

How to apply for the $725 payment

Families must complete an online application at ffesp.org by April 27. The process requires proof of residency, income, and guardianship of a young child.

No paper applications are accepted, and late submissions won’t qualify.

Applicants should act now to ensure their eligibility.

Why local stimulus programs matter

Local programs like FFESP offer targeted support to families who need it most. While states like Colorado return excess tax revenues through TABOR refunds, Sacramento County is investing directly in its youngest residents by providing families with monthly financial help.

Both models show how local governments can offer financial relief without waiting for federal action.

Final reminder

Eligible Sacramento County families must apply by April 27 to qualify for $725 monthly payments. With the deadline fast approaching, taking a few minutes to submit an application could make a major difference for families this summer and beyond.
