Steuben firefighters save Fremont home from spreading blaze

  • Staff Report

Steuben County firefighters prevented disaster Thursday when a vehicle fire spread to a garage in Fremont, according to the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department. Crews arrived at 7568 Russell Road to find the garage fully engulfed but quickly contained the flames before they could severely damage the nearby home.

Despite the garage being declared a total loss, the house sustained only minor damage, allowing the family to stay overnight. Fremont Fire Chief Barry Dye credited quick teamwork from local and mutual aid departments for halting the fire’s advance.

The blaze, extinguished within an hour, resulted in no injuries among firefighters, emergency workers, or residents. Mutual aid came from departments in Howard, Arkport, and North Hornell.
