The Corning-Painted Post School District is proposing a $146.8 million budget for 2025-2026, which includes a 7.89% tax levy increase—well above the state’s 3.23% cap, meaning it requires 60% voter approval to pass.
Officials say the increase is needed to offset inflation, health care costs, and debt, and to preserve vital programs and staff. Without it, they warn, services like school safety officers, before- and after-school clubs, IB programs, and numerous sports and extracurriculars could be cut. For homeowners, it means an estimated $180 hike on a $200,000 property.
A public hearing is set for May 13, with the vote scheduled for May 20. Polls will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
