Visa terminations rise for Cornell international students

  • Staff Report

Cornell University has confirmed 26 international students have had their SEVIS records terminated since March, with at least seven student visas revoked by federal authorities, according to The Ithaca Voice. These actions are part of a broader federal crackdown that has impacted thousands of students nationwide.

Terminations, typically initiated by universities for visa violations, have now been triggered by the Department of Homeland Security. Cornell officials are monitoring the situation but are not alerted when visas are revoked. The loss of SEVIS status can lead to deportation or loss of academic standing.

The surge follows federal action targeting students involved in pro-Palestinian protests. Since March, over 2,700 SEVIS records have been terminated under new enforcement policies by the Trump administration.
