A call from Cayuga County lawmakers for a state investigation into NYSEG’s billing practices has drawn sharp criticism from the utility, according to The Citizen. The company dismissed the resolution as “misguided,” arguing that billing oversight already exists through the Public Service Commission.
NYSEG blamed high winter bills on increased supply costs and taxes, not internal mismanagement. Some customers had reported rates doubling during colder months, sparking legislative concern.
The resolution, introduced by Chairman Jonathan Anna and Legislator Mark Strong, cited billing errors, sudden spikes, and a lack of transparency. It urges state officials to independently audit NYSEG and RG&E to uncover potential overcharges.
