Millions of Americans rely on SNAP benefits to purchase groceries at Walmart and other major retailers. As April 2025 winds down, knowing your state’s payment schedule is essential for managing your monthly food budget.
Here’s when to expect your SNAP EBT deposit this month — and how to use those benefits at Walmart both in-store and online.
April SNAP Deposit Dates by State

Each state sets its own SNAP issuance dates based on case numbers, last names, or Social Security digits. Here’s a look at general patterns:
- New York: April 1–9, based on case number
- California: April 1–10, based on last digit of case number
- Texas: April 1–28, staggered by EDG number
- Florida: April 1–28, staggered by case number
- Illinois: April 1–20, based on case number
- Georgia: April 5–23
- Ohio: April 2–20
- Pennsylvania: April 1–10
- North Carolina: April 3–21
- Michigan: April 3–21
If you haven’t received your benefits yet, you may fall in the later part of your state’s issuance window.
To check your deposit date or SNAP balance, visit your state’s EBT portal or use the ConnectEBT or Fresh EBT apps.
Can You Use SNAP at Walmart?
Yes. Walmart accepts SNAP EBT payments in all 50 states for eligible grocery items, including:
- Fresh produce and meats
- Dairy, eggs, and pantry staples
- Frozen meals
- Non-alcoholic beverages
- Seeds and plants that grow food
Walmart also accepts EBT online for grocery pickup and delivery orders in most states. When shopping on Walmart.com or the Walmart app, select “EBT” as your payment method during checkout.
Items SNAP Does Not Cover
Even though SNAP is flexible, it can’t be used for:
- Hot foods prepared for immediate consumption
- Alcohol or tobacco
- Vitamins, supplements, or medicines
- Pet food
- Cleaning products or household items
If you’re shopping online, Walmart automatically separates SNAP-eligible and ineligible items in your cart.
SNAP and EBT Tips for End-of-Month Shoppers
- Watch your balance: Some states reissue unused benefits for a limited time. Use them before they expire.
- Plan ahead: Popular delivery times at Walmart fill up quickly near payday weekends.
- Double-check store policies: EBT is accepted at most Walmart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, but not at gas stations or vision centers.
For more details or to track your benefits, visit your state EBT portal or call the number on the back of your EBT card.
