The New York Yankees saw their five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday evening as the Tampa Bay Rays stormed back with a four-run ninth and walked it off in the 10th for a 10-8 win at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Holding an 8-4 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, Yankees closer Devin Williams unraveled, allowing four runs on a mix of walks, infield hits, and a clutch two-run single by Brandon Lowe to tie the game. Williams, acquired in the offseason, saw his ERA balloon to 9.00 after another rough outing.
In the 10th, after the Yankees failed to capitalize with runners on the corners and no outs, Jonathan Aranda launched a two-run homer off Yoendrys Gómez to seal the win and snap Tampa Bay’s four-game skid.
Aaron Judge led the Yankees’ offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Trent Grisham added a solo homer, his fifth of the season.
Starter Carlos Carrasco struggled with control, allowing four runs in four innings.
The game also saw designated hitter Ben Rice exit with a bruised elbow after being hit by a pitch. X-rays came back negative.
The series wraps up on Easter Sunday with Max Fried taking the mound for New York against Tampa Bay’s Ryan Pepiot.
