John Ullyot is stepping down from the Pentagon this week, according to The Hill, as internal turmoil mounts. The former acting public affairs assistant to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he declined to serve under a new appointee and couldn’t agree on a new role.
A defense official confirmed Ullyot was asked to resign. His exit follows the suspension of three senior officials tied to a leak investigation. Ullyot had recently defended the Pentagon over controversial web page removals tied to diversity and civil rights history.
Ullyot previously served in Trump’s 2016 campaign and held senior roles in veterans and national security communications during Trump’s first term.
