Social Security Disability April 2025 Payments: Next Check, COLA Increase & Max Amount

The final round of April 2025 Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments is just days away, and it includes the 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) that took effect this year. For many recipients living on a fixed income, this increase offers much-needed relief as costs continue to rise.

When Is the Next Disability Payment?

The next SSDI payment will arrive on Wednesday, April 23. This payment will go to:

  • Beneficiaries who started receiving SSDI after May 1997
  • Individuals whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month

These payments follow the Social Security Administration’s staggered monthly schedule based on birth dates, and this final April payment is part of what’s known as “Group 4”.

If you receive your payment through direct deposit, it may land in your account as early as the morning of April 23. Those who receive paper checks should allow a few extra business days for delivery.

How Much Will the April SSDI Check Be?

The average SSDI payment in April 2025 is approximately $1,580 per month for individual disabled workers. However, the amount you receive depends on your earnings history and benefit structure.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Average for a disabled worker with dependents: ~$2,826
  • Maximum SSDI benefit in 2025: $4,018 per month (after the 2.5% COLA)

That max amount is only available to those with high lifetime earnings, 35+ years of contributions, and those who claimed benefits at the most advantageous time.

Even if you don’t qualify for the max, every SSDI beneficiary will see an increase in their 2025 payments compared to last year thanks to the COLA adjustment.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Late

If your payment doesn’t arrive as expected:

  1. Check with your bank first — delays often happen on the financial institution’s end.
  2. If no payment appears within 3 business days, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or visit ssa.gov.

Who Already Got Paid in April?

Two groups of SSDI recipients already received their checks:

  • April 9 – birthdays 1st–10th (Group 2)
  • April 16 – birthdays 11th–20th (Group 3)

The April 23 payment is the final SSDI disbursement for the month unless you qualify for a separate benefit like SSI or VA compensation, which follow their own schedules.

Final Reminder

If you’re part of Group 4—with a birthday between the 21st and 31st—and started receiving SSDI after May 1997, your next payment with the 2025 COLA increase arrives Wednesday, April 23.

Check your direct deposit or mailbox that day for the updated benefit. Every extra dollar helps—especially in a year where inflation continues to weigh heavily on essentials.
