Mets fall to Twins in 10 innings (highlights)

The New York Mets (11-7) erased a late deficit but came up short in extra innings, falling 4-3 to the Minnesota Twins (7-12) in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field to close out the three-game series.

Down 3-0 in the eighth, New York rallied to tie it. Francisco Lindor started things with a single and Pete Alonso brought him home with an RBI double. Jesse Winker then ripped a double to right, scoring Alonso, and Luisangel Acuña tied the game with a two-out single off shortstop Willi Castro’s glove.

Edwin Díaz handled the ninth, working around a leadoff walk by striking out Edouard Julien and Byron Buxton to send the game to extras. The Mets put runners on first and second with no outs in the 10th, but Winker grounded into a double play and Brandon Nimmo popped out on the first pitch.

Minnesota ended it in the bottom half when Ty France lined a walk-off single to center off Reed Garrett.

Justin Hagenman made an impressive MLB debut in relief after opener Huascar Brazoban. The right-hander tossed 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. The Twins added two more runs against José Butto in the fifth and sixth, aided by a missed call at first base that allowed another to score.
