A Phelps couple was seriously injured early Monday morning when their vehicle overturned in a crash along State Route 96, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say 57-year-old Teealisa Burdick was behind the wheel when she fell asleep and veered off the road near Newark Street around 12:01 a.m. on April 14. The vehicle struck a street sign and utility pole before crashing into a guardrail and flipping over.
Teealisa and her husband, Kevin Burdick, also 57, were both transported by Finger Lakes Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Emergency responders from the Phelps and Clifton Springs fire departments assisted at the scene. The driver was issued a citation for moving unsafely from her lane.
The incident remains under investigation by Deputies Douglas and Middlebrook, with assistance from Sergeants Francher and Herendeen.
