Millions of Americans are preparing to receive their next Social Security payment this week. The Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue payments on Wednesday (April 16) as part of its regular monthly distribution cycle.
If you receive retirement, disability, or survivor benefits, here’s who should expect a payment on that date — and how to verify your deposit.
Who Gets Paid on April 16, 2025?

The April 16 payment will go to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any month, provided they started receiving benefits after May 1997.
This includes:
- Retired workers
- Disabled workers (SSDI recipients)
- Spouses, widows/widowers, and surviving children receiving benefits
If your birthdate falls within this range, and you’ve already set up direct deposit, your payment should arrive on or shortly after April 16, depending on your bank’s processing time.
How the Social Security Payment Schedule Works
The SSA staggers payments across three Wednesdays each month, based on the primary beneficiary’s birthdate:
- Born 1st–10th → Paid on the second Wednesday
- Born 11th–20th → Paid on the third Wednesday (April 16 this month)
- Born 21st–31st → Paid on the fourth Wednesday (April 23 this month)
Those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are paid on the 1st of the month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.
What If Your Payment Doesn’t Arrive?
Most Social Security payments are sent electronically. If your payment hasn’t shown up by Friday, April 18, here’s what to do:
- Check your bank account for deposit confirmation
- Log into your My Social Security account to review payment status
- Wait three mailing days if you receive paper checks
- Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 if there’s still no payment
Payment issues are often tied to outdated banking info, closed accounts, or delays due to holidays or weekends.
