A Fair Haven resident has shared a warning with the community after a suspicious man visited her home last week and asked probing questions about satellite service—raising concerns that he may have been attempting to gain access to the residence under false pretenses.
Laurie Reichert posted to the “Fair Haven, NY – A Place For All Seasons” Facebook group, describing the April 10 encounter and sharing photos of the man’s vehicle. She said the incident occurred around 2 p.m. at her home, located along a route leading from Victory toward Cato.
According to Reichert, the man approached the home and began speaking with her husband, claiming to be inquiring about DirecTV service. When Reichert joined the conversation, she said the man appeared surprised. He allegedly asked whether the couple was having service issues like other neighbors and expressed interest in seeing their satellite equipment. Reichert said she responded firmly and declined his requests.
“He had no identification and seemed to myself wanting in the house,” she wrote. Reichert said the man left shortly afterward, driving a black Nissan—possibly an Altima—with no front license plate and noticeable damage to the front driver’s side.
Reichert noted that neighbors later reported similar visits from the same individual. She said home security cameras recorded the encounter, and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has been notified.
Residents in the area are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
