Over a year after losing access to a natural gas well, the Union Springs Central School District is still waiting for federal intervention in its dispute with the Cayuga Nation, according to The Citizen.
The Nation cut off the district’s access in early 2024, claiming it had been using over $100,000 worth of gas annually without payment since 2005. The district says it had a prior agreement and hoped for a peaceful resolution, but federal agencies have yet to respond.
The loss forced the district to switch providers and adjust its budget due to higher energy costs.
