Montezuma, Port Byron, and Weedsport have been selected as Empire State Trail Towns, a program aimed at boosting tourism and recreation along New York’s Empire State Trail, according to state officials.
Funded by the NYS Canal Corporation, the initiative will guide these Cayuga County communities in improving trail access and amenities. Public workshops and assessments will shape final recommendations by year’s end.
The towns are popular stops for cyclists on the Erie Canalway Trail, which sees millions of visits annually.
