Cayuga County: Legislature holds special meeting to address CIO salary (webcast)

The Cayuga County Legislature held a special meeting last week with much discussion centering on the decision to raise its Chief Information Officer’s salary to $160,000 in anticipation of a shared IT services agreement with the City of Auburn. Following a closed-door executive session, lawmakers approved the measure, which aims to expand the CIO’s role to oversee technology operations for both municipalities. County officials framed the move as a step toward regional collaboration and cost savings, citing opportunities like bulk purchasing, shared infrastructure, and relocating critical IT systems. If the agreement is finalized, the county also plans to add a new IT position and reallocate funds from a vacant role to cover the salary increase.
