Red Cross hosts blood drive today at Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department

  • Staff Report

The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive today, Friday, April 4, at the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Training Room at 7445 County House Road in Auburn.

Organizers are encouraging eligible donors to make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or entering the sponsor code CayugaSheriff. Walk-ins are also welcome, though appointments are preferred to streamline the process.

Donors are asked to consider making a Power Red donation if they have type O, B-, or A- blood, which helps hospitals meet urgent patient needs. Red blood cells from Power Red donations are the most commonly transfused blood component.

To speed up the check-in process, donors can complete their pre-donation reading and health history online at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass before arriving.

As part of a special promotion, all donors who give between April 1 and 13 will receive a $15 gift card via email and be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 prize. Full details are available at rcblood.org/hope.

The Red Cross reminds the public that giving blood helps save lives every day and plays a vital role in keeping hospital shelves stocked for emergencies and ongoing patient care.
