The New York Yankees (4-2) launched three more home runs on Thursday night, powering their way to a 9-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks (4-3) to avoid a three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium.
Aaron Judge continued his absurd start to the season with a three-hit, four-RBI game, including a three-run homer in the first inning, his fifth of the year. Trent Grisham added a two-run shot in the third and an RBI double in the first as the Yankees jumped out to an early 6-1 lead. Judge later added an RBI single in the fourth to extend the cushion and Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed that with his fourth long ball of the season. The Yankees have hit a Major League record 22 home runs through the first six games.
Carlos Carrasco, making his first start as a Yankee, pitched 5.1 solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. The bullpen held strong until the seventh, when Ryan Yarbrough allowed a grand slam to Geraldo Perdomo, trimming the lead to 9-7. Mark Leiter Jr. came on to escape further damage, and Luke Weaver followed with a four-out save to secure the win.
J.C. Escarra notched his first MLB hit with a seventh-inning double.
Next, the Yankees will hit the road for the first time this season when they open a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday at PNC Park, with the first pitch slated for 4:12 p.m.
