The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with local law enforcement and pharmacies for the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offering residents a safe, free, and anonymous way to dispose of unused or expired medications.
The event will take place Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations across the county: Kinney Drugs at 2085 Route 5&20 in Seneca Falls, Walgreens at 1929 Route 5&20 in Waterloo, and Kinney Drugs at 7115 North Main Street in Ovid.
Organizers are encouraging residents to do some “spring cleaning” by checking their medicine cabinets and turning in any unneeded prescriptions. The goal is to reduce the risk of medication misuse and accidental poisoning by removing old drugs from homes before they become a danger.
Only pills and patches will be accepted at the drop-off sites. Liquids, needles, and other sharps will not be taken. In addition to the drug disposal service, free gun locks will be available at all locations to help residents enhance safety in their homes.
“This is a great chance to safely dispose of any unused or expired medications lying around,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a public announcement. “Holding onto old medicines can be dangerous, as they may lead to accidental misuse or harm.”
The event is supported by the Seneca County Substance Abuse Coalition and United Way of Seneca County. No identification or paperwork is required, and no questions will be asked during drop-off.
Residents can find additional details and updates on the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
