A man from Arkport is facing felony assault charges after allegedly using his SUV to intentionally hit two people near a trailer park in Hornellsville over the weekend, according to New York State Police.

Walter P. Golden, 40, was arrested Sunday, March 30, and charged with two counts of assault in the first degree, a class B felony.

Troopers responded to the incident around 5:53 p.m. after receiving a report that two individuals had been struck by a vehicle near Pine Knoll Park, a trailer park in Hornellsville. At the scene, they found a 57-year-old and a 56-year-old injured along a farm equipment access path next to the park.

State police say their investigation revealed that Golden deliberately drove his SUV into the two victims. Responding troopers located him in the area shortly after and took him into custody. He was processed at the Hornell barracks and transported to the Steuben County Jail.

The 56-year-old victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where they remain in intensive care. The 57-year-old was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at St. James Hospital and has since been released.
