A major show of support is coming to Ovid as the community continues to recover from the devastating Main Street block fire in January. NextEra Energy and former Senator Mike Nozollio will visit the fire site and present donations to aid in the recovery effort.
They are scheduled to arrive Wednesday, April 2, at approximately 4 p.m. Their visit will include a tour of the fire-damaged area on Main Street, followed by a gathering at the Ovid Fire Department headquarters at 2136 Brown Street.
There, Nozollio and representatives from NextEra will meet with Fire Chief Tim Westlake, members of the Ovid Fire Relief Fund Committee, and department personnel. They will present large donation checks to the Ovid Fire Relief Fund and the Ovid Fire Department.
The Ovid Fire Department, led by Chief Westlake, has played a key role in coordinating recovery efforts since the January 21 blaze. The fire dealt a major blow to the village’s central business district and spurred a community-wide response to support affected residents and businesses.
