A Canandaigua man was arrested late Monday night on felony charges of driving while intoxicated following a roadside investigation on State Routes 5 and 20.
Kenneth D. Stellwegen, 46, of Phoenix Street, was taken into custody around 10 p.m. on March 31 after deputies responded to a report of a sick or intoxicated motorist in the Town of Canandaigua.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Stellwegen showed signs of intoxication during the stop and was given a standardized field sobriety test. The results reportedly confirmed further indicators of impairment. Deputies arrested Stellwegen at the scene without incident.
Officials noted that Stellwegen had a prior DWI conviction in 2015, which elevated the current charge to a felony. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he was issued citations and held for pre-arraignment detention.
He is scheduled to appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date to answer the charge. The case was investigated by Deputy Burke, with assistance from Sergeant Burnett and Deputy Chen.
