Wayne Central launches first girls flag football team

Wayne Central School District has introduced its first-ever girls flag football team for the 2025 spring season. Sparked by a 2024 community survey, the initiative was led by Athletic Director Tony Carusone to expand sports opportunities for female students, according to The Times of Wayne County.

The team, coached by Kelly Paladino and assistant Elizabeth Spogen, features 25 athletes in grades 9–12 and will compete in Section V Class C. Their debut includes a special scrimmage at the Buffalo Bills Training Center on March 29, highlighting a milestone for the program.

The district celebrates this new chapter, seeing it as a platform to build confidence, school pride, and athletic excellence among young women.
