Two teenagers face felony charges after a string of burglaries in Lewis County led investigators to a stolen vehicle, multiple thefts, and the recovery of two handguns.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Lowville and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested the juveniles, ages 13 and 15, following a joint investigation into crimes committed between March 17 and 19 in Port Leyden and Lyons Falls.
Authorities say the teens entered several unlocked cars parked at homes overnight and stole items. They also burglarized multiple storage units at Shue Box Storage on State Route 12 in Port Leyden. Investigators said the juveniles stole a vehicle from a Port Leyden residence and later crashed it in a rollover on State Route 12 in Martinsburg. The teens fled the scene before officers arrived.
Each teen was charged with three counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, seven counts of petit larceny, two counts of burglary in the third degree, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
Both were issued appearance tickets for family court.
