NYSEG faces customer frustration over soaring, inconsistent bills

Dozens of NYSEG customers packed a Thursday night event in Big Flats, demanding clarity on soaring and inconsistent utility bills, some reportedly quadruple their usual amount.


Many attendees blamed newly installed smart meters for billing confusion, with reports of multiple, conflicting bills sent in a single day. NYSEG insists the smart meters are accurate and pointed to rising energy costs and winter usage as key factors behind the spikes.

While some customers left satisfied with the conversations, others called for more transparency and a fix for billing issues. NYSEG says customers should contact them directly with concerns and explore available billing options.
