Geneva man cleared in toddler death trial

A Geneva man accused of causing the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son has been found not guilty on all charges.

A jury acquitted 25-year-old Jarrid Mix of manslaughter in the 2022 death of Parker Rivera. Prosecutors argued the child died from severe internal injuries while in Mix’s care, but the defense said the cause was undetermined and suggested medical malpractice.

Mix’s attorney said the quick verdict confirmed her client’s innocence. The district attorney expressed disappointment but acknowledged the challenges of prosecuting such cases.
