The Ithaca City School District unveiled a $169 million budget proposal for 2025–2026, reflecting a 3.6% increase in spending over last year, according to school officials.
The plan avoids major cuts or new programs, relying on $6.8 million from the district’s fund balance to help fill budget gaps. Despite a 3.76% rise in the tax levy, most homeowners shouldn’t see major hikes due to a pause on property reassessments. Rising staff costs, especially pending teacher contract negotiations, remain a key driver.
Officials warned that potential federal funding cuts under the Trump administration could threaten essential programs. The district will revise the plan in coming weeks, with a final vote set for May 20.
