A partnership between Grande Venues and the Hiawatha Institute for Indigenous Knowledge has submitted a $10.7 million bid to purchase the former Wells College campus in Aurora. Their revised plan includes an Indigenous college and senior housing but drops an earlier proposal for an international boarding school.
The 127-acre campus was listed for sale in November after Wells College closed in June. CBRE, the real estate firm managing the sale, received multiple offers, including one from the Cleveland Commission for Wells, a group aiming to restore the campus as a higher education institution.
The Wells College board is evaluating bids, considering financial obligations and the campus’ community ties. Any sale must receive regulatory approval, including from the state attorney general’s office.
