Most New York prisons, including Auburn and Cayuga correctional facilities, reopened to visitors after a three-week correction officer strike ended on March 10, The Citizen reported. The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision warned visits may be limited due to high demand.
Four prisons—Attica, Cape Vincent, Upstate, and Wyoming—remain closed to visitors. DOCCS introduced stricter security measures, including mandatory body scans for full-contact visits. Visitors who refuse will only be allowed non-contact visits or denied entry.
The strike, which saw 90% of officers walk out, led to 2,000 firings. DOCCS pledged to address officers’ concerns, including security policies. Further updates will be posted on the DOCCS website.
