The Wayne Eagles entered the 2024-25 season with their sights set on a state championship after coming up just short the year before. On Saturday afternoon in Binghamton, they had a chance to return to the title game, but standing in their way once again were the Glens Falls Black Bears, the same team that ended their run last season.
Wayne (23-3) battled hard in the first half, trailing by just three after the opening quarter and seven at halftime. However, Glens Falls (26-0) took control in the third, extending their lead to double digits and heading into the fourth with a 16-point advantage. The Black Bears never looked back, pulling away for a 75-55 victory in the Class A state semifinals, stretching their remarkable win streak to 53 games.
Junior Cam Blankenberg led the Eagles with 29 points, while junior Aidan Twist added 16. Sophomore Richard Miles was held to just five points
Despite the loss, Wayne capped off another impressive season, claiming back-to-back sectional and regional titles while winning 23 of their 26 games. Glens Falls will now aim for a second straight state championship on Sunday, facing Section XI’s Mount Sinai (23-2) at 11:45 a.m.
