Nine hospitalized after substance incidents at Attica prison

  • Staff Report

Nine people were hospitalized following multiple substance-related incidents at Attica Correctional Facility. The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) reported that events unfolded over several days, involving both staff and inmates.

On Sunday, three officers fell ill after searching an inmate and handling suspicious paper. Later, two inmates were found unconscious and revived with Narcan, while a sergeant and a nurse involved also became sick. On Wednesday, a staff member and a nurse were hospitalized after exposure to a powder from an envelope.

Authorities are investigating the incidents, but no official cause has been determined. Concerns remain over substance exposure within the prison.
