General Motors Recall: Major Transmission Lock-Up Risk

General Motors has announced a recall of more than 90,000 vehicles due to a transmission defect that could cause the front wheels to lock up, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects certain Cadillac and Chevrolet models equipped with a 10-speed transmission.
Which Vehicles Are Affected?
The recall includes the following models:
- Cadillac CT4 (2020-2021)
- Cadillac CT5 (2020-2021)
- Cadillac CT6 (2019-2020)
- Chevrolet Camaro (2020-2022)
What Is the Issue?
According to General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles have a faulty transmission control valve that can suffer from excessive wear over time. This can lead to:
- Harsh shifting
- Temporary wheel lock-up
- Increased risk of accidents
There has been one reported accident potentially linked to this defect, but no confirmed injuries.
What Should Owners Do?
GM will notify owners by mail starting April 21, 2025. Dealers will install a free software update that will detect excess wear 10,000 miles before a wheel lock-up could occur. If detected, the transmission will be locked into fifth gear until the vehicle is restarted.
Owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall by contacting:
- Cadillac Customer Service: 1-800-333-4223
- Chevrolet Customer Service: 1-800-222-1020
- NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline: 1-888-327-4236 or nhtsa.gov
- GM Recall Number: N242480630
