Donald Lewis, a 27-year law enforcement veteran, has been appointed Chief of Police for the Bath Village Police Department. Previously with the Canisteo Village Police and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis led numerous high-profile investigations.
Lewis, who recently retired from the sheriff’s office, plans to focus on community policing, ensuring both temporary and permanent residents feel integrated and safe. Mayor Mike Sweet supports his approach as Lewis works on a strategy for the department.
The Bath Police Department has 10 full-time officers. Lewis, known for his expertise in phone extractions and arson investigations, replaces former chief Colin Taft, who retired in 2024. Officials expect him to be a strong leader for the village.
