A Hornell man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly breaking into a motel room and attacking another person during a noise dispute, according to New York State Police.

Troopers arrested Zachary D. Smith, 25, following an investigation into a physical altercation at the Econo Lodge on Seneca Road North in Hornell. Authorities say Smith forced his way into another guest’s room Tuesday night and physically assaulted them, causing injuries. The attack also resulted in damage to the doorframe and threshold of the room.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 10 p.m. and found multiple people gathered outside the motel. The victim was evaluated by Hornell City Ambulance personnel and later transported to St. James Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Smith was charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, as well as third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both class A misdemeanors. Due to prior felony convictions, he is being held at the Steuben County Jail without bail.
