Palmyra man arrested for firearm possession, child endangerment

  • Staff Report

A Palmyra man was arrested Friday following an investigation into a firearm removal request, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies took Travis J. Weterrings, 29, into custody on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, failure to safely secure a firearm, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say the investigation began on January 18 when a family member discovered a loaded, sawed-off shotgun in the home and requested its removal. Deputies later determined that the weapon had not been stored properly, making it easily accessible to a young child.

Weterrings turned himself in and was processed at the Wayne County Jail before being released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Palmyra Town Court at a later date.
