A 54-year-old Hungarian man, Mihaly Bodnar, was arrested at Newark International Airport for allegedly raping a child under 13 in Hornell. Homeland Security officials, in coordination with local law enforcement, intercepted Bodnar before he could flee the country.
Hornell police launched an investigation after receiving a report of the assault, leading to a search of Bodnar’s residence and a court-issued warrant. Authorities tracked his movements through cell phone data, enabling his capture.
Bodnar is being held in New Jersey, awaiting extradition to Steuben County. If convicted of first-degree rape, he faces up to 25 years in prison. Officials praised the swift, multi-agency effort in preventing his escape.
