Buffalo Bills defensive linemen Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht will miss the first six games of the season after violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, general manager Brandon Beane announced Friday. The team was unaware of Ogunjobi’s positive test before signing him to a one-year deal, while Hoecht, who agreed to a three-year contract, had disclosed his violation in advance.
Ogunjobi, released by Pittsburgh earlier in the week, said he unknowingly consumed a banned substance and took full responsibility. “It was a mistake. It was an accident. And I accept my punishment,” he said. Hoecht echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging he became lax in checking his supplements. “It was careless. It’s fully my responsibility,” he said.
Beane admitted the suspensions are a setback but likened them to early-season injuries the team must navigate. Ogunjobi’s signing was briefly delayed as the Bills adjusted contract terms upon learning of his positive test. Despite the situation, Beane praised Ogunjobi’s honesty, noting his reputation as a respected veteran. Both players will remain with the team through training camp and return after serving their suspensions.
