Honeoye entered Wednesday night’s Class C Regional qualifier against York at Dansville High School as one of just two Wayne-Finger Lakes teams still standing. But through 26 minutes, the Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm, and their hopes of advancing were fading.
Then, Landon Washburn took control. The sophomore guard erupted for 12 points in the fourth quarter, sparking a 14-0 Honeoye (23-1) run to seal a 52-42 comeback victory over York (14-12).
Trailing by five entering the final period, the Bulldogs dominated down the stretch, outscoring the Golden Knights 17-4 in the last eight minutes.
Washburn led all scorers with 20 points, while Owen Reynolds buried five three-pointers for 15. Owen Cuba added 12 points, and Braiden Schneider chipped in 11 to round out Honeoye’s balanced attack.
York was led by Ryan Brady with 10 points, while Parker Bonefade and Mason Parsons combined for 16.
With the win, Honeoye advances to the Class C state quarterfinal, where they will face Section VI’s Westfield (21-2) on Saturday, March 15, at Rush-Henrietta High School. Tipoff is set for 5:45 p.m.
