Plea deals offered to Waterloo officials in burglary case

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Waterloo Town Supervisor Don Trout and board member Bob Lotz have been offered plea deals to reduce their felony burglary charges to a misdemeanor.

The two officials are accused of entering the town Highway Department in March 2024 and damaging a television. Prosecutors propose they plead guilty to fourth-degree criminal mischief, with Trout’s girlfriend, Michelle Geraghty, having her charges dropped. A key issue in negotiations is whether they receive probation or a conditional discharge.

Both officials, who plan to seek reelection in November, declined to comment. A court conference on the plea offer is scheduled for April 14. A special prosecutor was assigned due to Trout’s budgetary influence over the DA’s office.
