Law enforcement agencies in Steuben County will be ramping up patrols as part of a statewide effort to crack down on impaired driving during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Sheriff James Allard announced Tuesday that the county’s police agencies and STOP-DWI Coordinators will participate in the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign from March 13 through March 18. The initiative aims to reduce alcohol-related injuries and fatalities during one of the most dangerous periods for impaired driving.
New York State Police, county sheriffs, and municipal law enforcement will be working together to increase public awareness and enforcement efforts. The campaign is part of a broader initiative by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which also focuses on major holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving.
Authorities are urging residents to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence. The “Have a Plan” mobile app provides users with access to safe ride options. More information is available at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp.
