In an unexpected outcome to one of the region’s most important city races, Democrats and Republicans in Geneva have endorsed Jim Cecere for mayor. It’s a move supporters say speak to his broad vision for the city.

Cecere, a registered Democrat, was first endorsed by the Geneva Democratic Committee two weeks ago. The Geneva Republican Committee followed suit, citing his leadership qualities and alignment with their goals for Geneva.

“I am deeply humbled and grateful for the confidence placed in me with this endorsement,” Cecere said. “This campaign is about bringing people together, regardless of political affiliation, to work toward a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Geneva.”

Republican leaders praised Cecere’s commitment to public safety, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable development, stating that his leadership transcends party lines. “After meeting with Jim Cecere, it was obvious that he would make an excellent candidate for mayor,” said Geneva GOP Chairwoman Ethel Peters.

Democratic leaders also welcomed the cross-endorsement. “We are heartened that the Republican Committee, in their cross-endorsement of Jim, agrees that these Democratic principles are essential to moving the City of Geneva forward,” said Jess Farrell, Chair of the Geneva City Democratic Committee.

Geneva Democrats emphasized that Cecere remains committed to advancing Democratic priorities, while Republicans stressed the importance of selecting leaders based on merit rather than party affiliation. “In a time of such division in the country, we are proud to have endorsed a candidate for mayor who can transcend those political divisions and unite the city,” said Todd Beeton, Vice Chair of the Democratic Committee.

As Geneva prepares for the upcoming election, Cecere’s bipartisan support could be a defining factor in shaping the city’s leadership and future direction.
