A Canandaigua man has been arrested after authorities say he assaulted his five-week-old baby, leaving the infant with significant bruising.
New York State Police launched an investigation after Ontario County Child Protective Services reported an injured baby at Strong Memorial Hospital on March 1. Medical personnel determined the child had suffered significant bruising, prompting officials to implement a safety plan.
The following day, troopers arrested Jayden Q. Mendez Sr., 25, at his Canandaigua residence. He was processed at the NYSP barracks in Canandaigua and charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Mendez Sr. was taken to Ontario County Jail for CAP arraignment. Authorities have not released further details on the baby’s condition or the ongoing investigation.
