Drug task force raid results in arrest in Aurelius

  • Staff Report

A search warrant executed by the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force led to the arrest of an Auburn man found in possession of a prohibited weapon and suspected synthetic drugs, authorities said.

Investigators raided a residence in the Town of Aurelius after securing a court-authorized warrant from Cayuga County Court Judge T. Leone. During the search, officers discovered Jason P. Colon, 44, in possession of a metal knuckle knife and a quantity of an imitation controlled substance known as “Molly.”

Due to a prior criminal conviction, Colon was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony. He also faces a charge under Cayuga County’s local law for possession of mislabeled dangerous substances. Prosecutors have requested that he be held at the Cayuga County Jail, citing his four previous felony convictions.

The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force—composed of members from the New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and Auburn Police Department—led the operation with additional support from the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) team. The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.

Authorities are asking anyone with further information to contact the FLDTF at 315-282-7540.
