Dansville man returns home after Taliban captivity

  • Staff Report

After more than two years as a Taliban hostage, Ryan Corbett was welcomed home by a packed crowd at Dansville High School. The businessman, wrongfully detained in Afghanistan in 2022, recounted his harrowing experience, including months of solitary confinement and harsh conditions.

Despite mistreatment, Corbett found moments of empathy among his captors and reflected on lessons of resilience, acceptance, and forgiveness. His release, secured through negotiations, was celebrated by lawmakers, including Rep. Claudia Tenney, who praised his family’s strength.

Expressing gratitude, Corbett emphasized that life’s true value lies in love and relationships, not material possessions. “You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond,” he said.
