The Waterloo boys basketball team was chasing their first sectional title in 53 years, but their bid came up short with a 62-53 loss to World of Inquiry in the Class B1 Championship on Saturday morning at the Blue Cross Arena.
The second-seeded Tigers (16-7) trailed by seven at halftime but mounted a strong third-quarter push to trim the deficit to one heading into the fourth. However, the top-seeded Griffins (20-3) responded with a decisive 10-0 run in the first five minutes of the final quarter, sealing their first-ever sectional title.
Waterloo was led by senior Cameron Jacobs, who knocked down seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points. Dylan Caraballo and Carter Peterson also reached double figures, scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Justin Knowlton added four.
World of Inquiry had a balanced attack, with Curtis Bell leading the way with 20 points, Kanaz Linder adding 18, and Jaedon Adams-Griffin contributing 16.
Radio Replay: Paul Russo and Nate Sharman had the call on FingerLakes1 Radio.
With the win, the Griffins advance to face East Rochester on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. in the Class B Far West Regional Qualifier.
