The Waterloo Fire Department had a busy day responding to multiple house fires on Thursday, assisting neighboring departments in Aurelius and Border City.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Henninger highlighted the department’s efforts, noting that firefighters provided mutual aid for a house fire in Aurelius before responding to another in Border City later in the evening. The department’s post also served as a recruitment call, urging community members to consider joining the fire service.
“If YOU have ever thought about becoming a firefighter, stop down to your local fire station and start the conversation,” the department wrote. “More help is always welcome and definitely needed these days.”
Henninger emphasized that all training and gear are provided and that firefighting roles are available for various skill levels. While physically fit interior firefighters are the biggest need, the department also welcomes corporate and auxiliary members who provide support in other ways.
Prospective members are invited to visit the station on Mondays or Thursdays at 7 p.m. for a tour, an application, and what Henninger jokingly described as “maybe even a hard time if we like you.”
