A Rochester man is behind bars after allegedly attacking an elderly store employee with pepper spray while attempting to steal from Eastview Mall earlier this week.
Authorities say 67-year-old Jack Miles was confronted by an 84-year-old Macy’s employee on Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to steal six jackets. Instead of fleeing, police say, Miles used pepper spray on the employee before making his escape.
New York State Police tracked Miles down the following day, finding him inside a vehicle outside the mall. He was arrested and charged with assault, robbery, and grand larceny.
Miles is currently being held without bail. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday.
