Finger Lakes Land Trust seeks director for Hemlock to High Tor conservation project

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Finger Lakes Land Trust is seeking a full-time Project Director to lead its Hemlock to High Tor Initiative, an ambitious conservation effort aimed at creating a protected land corridor between Hemlock Lake and Canandaigua Lake.

The initiative focuses on preserving one of the largest remaining intact forest areas in the Finger Lakes while safeguarding critical water resources. The region includes the only two Finger Lakes with undeveloped shorelines, thousands of acres of existing public conservation land, and key recreational assets such as a branch of the Finger Lakes Trail.

The Project Director will report to the FLLT President and lead a team of staff and volunteers to implement the conservation plan. Responsibilities include outreach to landowners and local officials, identifying land protection opportunities, managing conservation easements, and coordinating watershed and wildlife habitat improvement projects. The director will also assist in securing funding through grants and donor relations.

Candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, environmental science, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of experience in conservation, land use planning, or resource management. Strong communication and project management skills are required, and experience with nonprofit organizations is preferred.

The position offers a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000, along with a competitive benefits package. Interested applicants can submit their resume, cover letter, and references to Kait Marrin at the Finger Lakes Land Trust. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The Finger Lakes Land Trust, which has protected more than 34,000 acres across the region, is dedicated to conserving the area’s scenic landscapes, clean water, and wild spaces.
