Three people were arrested in Bath after police allegedly discovered large quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine during a welfare check, according to the Bath Village Police Department.

The arrests stem from an investigation that began on February 12 when officers from the Bath Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check on West Washington Street at approximately 11:40 p.m. During the check, law enforcement reportedly found significant amounts of illegal drugs, along with drug packaging and sales materials.

Authorities arrested 63-year-old Dewane M. Burdick of Bath, 37-year-old Sarah K. Rideout of Savona, and 57-year-old William D. Schaffer of Virginia. Burdick was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony. Rideout and Schaffer were charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, a class E felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

Burdick is currently being held at the Steuben County Jail without bail. Rideout and Schaffer were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at later dates.
